Macquarie Hills is a range of hills located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. They are situated approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of Sydney and 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Newcastle. The hills are named after Lachlan Macquarie, the Governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1821. The Macquarie Hills are a popular destination for bushwalking, mountain biking, and horse riding. The area is also home to a number of endangered species, including the koala, the squirrel glider, and the glossy black cockatoo.
