While the fundamental search engine might not undergo a complete overhaul, it's certainly gearing up to be more captivating, as evidenced by its upcoming feature that resembles Instagram Stories.
The tech giant is reportedly working on a fresh approach to enhance search results interaction. This entails enabling users to share text, images, or stickers in a format akin to Stories directly through its core mobile app. This discovery was made by @AssembleDebug on X (formerly Twitter). Already, publishers and content creators can employ Web Stories to share content on the web, which then appears on Google Search, Google Images, and Google Discover.
The team at 9to5Google successfully accessed this unannounced feature within the Google app. This innovation promises to offer users a novel way to engage with the information they're seeking. This endeavor aligns with Google's ongoing pursuit of refining natural and visual search methods. Additionally, users will be able to leave comments, known as "Notes," on web pages featured in search results.
When viewing a webpage through the Google app's default browser, users will have the ability to comment, and these notes will be public-facing following the company's moderation process. Users can also express appreciation by liking or hearting notes left by others, with their profile photo and name visible to fellow users.
According to a source cited by 9to5, Notes is anticipated to launch as part of Google Labs in September, accessible on both Android and iOS platforms. However, this functionality won't be applicable to all search results, particularly those involving medical information or explicit content.
Although this feature is likely still in a testing phase, its potential is intriguing. Google is renowned for its deliberate pace, especially when it involves altering its core operations. Nevertheless, it's evident that Google aspires to transcend its identity as a mere search engine, embracing a broader role.
