Apolinario Saravia (June 20, 1852 – May 20, 1913) was a Bolivian soldier, politician and revolutionary. He was one of the leaders of the Federal Revolution, which overthrew the government of Aniceto Arce in 1899. Saravia served as President of Bolivia from 1904 to 1909. Saravia was born in Tarija, Bolivia, on June 20, 1852. He was the son of a wealthy landowner and politician. Saravia studied law at the University of Sucre, but did not complete his degree. He instead joined the military and fought in the War of the Pacific (1879-1884). After the war, Saravia became involved in politics. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1886 and served as Minister of War from 1889 to 1890. In 1899, Saravia led the Federal Revolution, which overthrew the government of Aniceto Arce. Saravia served as President of Bolivia from 1904 to 1909. During his presidency, Saravia oversaw the construction of railroads and highways, the development of the mining industry, and the expansion of education.
