According to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, Pakistani neuroscientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who has been imprisoned in the United States for more than ten years, appeared "miserable and terrified" of the torture she has been subjected to.
Senator Ahmed met Dr Aafia a day after she met her younger sister, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, after 20 years, at the Federal Medical Center in Carswell, Texas, on Wednesday.
A well-known human rights activist who also assisted in the release of Abdul and Ahmed Rabbani from the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison, Clive Stafford-Smith was with the senator at the meeting on Thursday.
Senator Ahmed shared a few details about the meeting while describing the prison doctor's miserable situation, which he had seen during the three-hour phone call from behind a glass barrier.
He claimed on Twitter that Dr. Aafia "held" a three-hour telephone meeting or conversation in a small room divided by a glass shield while wearing an off-white scarf, a khaki dress, and white joggers. The conversation was continuously recorded.
